The world’s increasing focus on climate change, rising energy costs, and the continuous development of solar energy technologies are all favorable factors for the expansion of solar energy. More and more solar farms are being planned globally, which increases demand for installations that are more efficient, quicker, and simpler to deploy. The question is: how can wireless Modbus meet these needs and successfully fulfill them?

Many industry professionals see the huge benefits of Modbus: there’s no need for time-consuming installation, planning, cable trenching, circuit wiring, or fault troubleshooting. Moreover, wireless technology makes it easy to upgrade existing installations by transforming a wired network into a wireless one.

Why is wireless W-Modbus so relevant for modern solar farms?

To meet the increasing demand for solar power systems and their monitoring, LumenRadio introduced the wireless Modbus concept based on its core MiraMesh platform. This solution ensures ultra-reliable data transmission with extended network functionality and extremely easy installation—providing high added value for both new and existing setups.

Key features of W-Modbus:

  • LumenRadio’s W-Modbus offers a 500-meter line-of-sight operating range between two nodes. With 8 hops in a MESH network, this allows you to cover vast areas of solar parks.
  • W-Modbus is a smarter cable replacement. It is independent of the data transmission speeds of connected devices and allows up to 100 remote devices to be connected to a single Modbus controller.

LumenRadio W-Modbus is a perfect solution for many solar power tasks: when you need to connect an inverter in one building to a data logger in another; when you want to avoid trenching to reach a meter in a control room; or when you simply want to add sensors to monitor equipment status more precisely. W-Modbus offers a lot:

  • wide-area wireless coverage without data loss;
  • qick installation – no time wasted on cabling;
  • easier fault diagnostics – no need to check every cable;
  • device upgrades and network integration can take just 1 minute;
  • ability to connect up to 100 Modbus devices in one network;
  • no need to change hardware or software.

Using W-Modbus, the solar installer avoided all trenching and complex cable-laying, and instead deployed a fast, simple, and effective wireless solution.

„LumenRadio’s W-Modbus makes our daily work so much easier—I believe we’ll use it even more in the future,” says Daniel Olegård, Electrician, DIN ELKONTAKT.

Complete solar installations faster with W-Modbus

Stefan Svensson, owner of MODERN MILJÖTEKNIK and a solar installer in Sweden, shares how W-Modbus improves project efficiency: „W-Modbus saves us a lot of time on solar installations—both for us and our clients.”

More expert opinions in this video:

It’s clear that LumenRadio’s W-Modbus not only solves installation challenges but also redefines the potential of solar energy solutions.

In Baltic states, several projects have successfully implemented LumenRadio’s W-Modbus. Installers who were initially skeptical about wireless Modbus have tested the system and are now convinced of its reliability and ease of installation—choosing W-Modbus again for future projects.

How is the wireless W-Modbus installed?

The LumenRadio W-Modbus module is mounted on a DIN rail (https://www.lemona.lt/w-modbus-modulis-montuojamas-ant-din-begelio.html) and can operate in either gateway or node mode (2 units). There’s also a wall-mounted version for indoor use (https://www.lemona.lt/w-modbus-modulis-montuojamas-ant-sienos.html), which can also function as either gateway or node. Both modules work identically, and a 1+1 combination is possible as needed.

System integrators can also purchase a starter kit from LumenRadio for testing and evaluation. (https://www.lemona.lt/w-modbus-bevielio-rysio-demo-rinkinys-integratoriams-lumenradio.html )
